What are Status Reports?
Keeping clients up-to-date with the status of a job is a best practice in professional services and is particularly relevant to the kind of remote work performed on Elance.
Status Reports help Providers and Employers stay in touch and exchange information about the status of a job, including tasks performed, hours worked, journal entries, attachments and plans for the upcoming week. The Status Report also interacts with Elance's invoicing system to create invoices with one-click, saving Providers considerable time during billing and providing Employers greater visibility and invoices complete with supporting documentation.
The week's Status Report is to be submitted to the buyer by the following Monday at 12:00AM ET. After a Status Report is submitted, the Employer has the option to accept or disagree with the report and add comments.
Status Reports can be filled out from the Status Report link on the left panel or from the top menu of the Workroom. They may also be auto-populated by using the Tracker to help manage your time.

The Status Report includes:
- The week's starting date
- Both the buyer and provider's usernames
- The overall job status (eg. On Schedule, Problem or Complete) as assessed by the provider.
- A Progress Update - The provider can input the percentage completed of each milestone as listed on the Terms.
- A Log - The amounts entered in the Log are to help communicate the quantity of work delivered.
- The provider can record hours worked on each milestone and other tangible, repeatable units of work, such as emails replied, bugs fixed, claims processed, etc.
- For Fixed Fee projects, the hours works are only for internal tracking only
- For Hourly non-Escrow projects, the hours entered in the Timesheet can be directly imported into an invoice
- Plan for Next Week and Other Notes - The provider can let the buyer know their intentions for the following week.
